BROKEN RITES

Diocese in Europe ‘Friends’ Service

by B R Representative for the Diocese in Europe.

Vivienne Blount

Service held on the evening of 26th October 2011.

Ann Richards & I enjoyed attending the Annual Service of the Friends of the Diocese in Europe, as representatives of Broken Rites.  The service was in the form of a Eucharist.  Afterwards there was a reception buffet, where Gillian Ratcliff, the Bishops’ Visitor for the D-in-E introduced me to the Rt Rev’d Geoffrey Rowell, the Bishop of Gibralter in Europe and also to the Rt Rev’d David Hamid who is Suffragan Bishop in Europe, while Ann spoke to a few other people.

We had hoped to raise awareness of Broken Rites as a support group waiting in the wings, but proactive for those who need us, but time and opportunity ran out (the Bishop addressed the whole room which was very crowded) as I had to dash for my return train to Derbyshire, so only a few leaflets were given to those to whom we spoke.

Previous Report from the Diocese in Europe - Summer 2011

I am happy to report that I have not had any enquiries for help or support from anyone in the Diocese in Europe over the last year.  I have spoken to the Bishop’s Visitor, who said, when she last talked to Bishop Geoffrey in the autumn, he had told her that he was not aware of any problems.  She is still in touch with one lady with ongoing problems, but who has not sought support from Broken Rites.
Contact details for Broken Rite support can be found in The Diocese in Europe’s Yearbook, in the section ‘useful addresses’.
