Then Frank Field MP cut our cake and made a short speech followed by a presentation to our first Chair.

After that,  The Rev'd John Marsh gave a short message and presented a gift to Broken Rites  of a lantern.  This was received by Ruth, our non C of E Representative. We all enjoyed tea and a piece of cake Then, the Archbishop spoke and answered written questions. Finally, Bishop Roy closed the meeting with a blessing.

Our Display at  General Synod in February

Thank you very much to everyone who supported this event.

Before the AGM there was our display at The General Synod of the Church of England in February this year.    This seems rather a long time ago now!    This was a worthwhile venture and was an important thing to do to help raise awareness of our existence.

People did come and look at the stall, take leaflets and other information and we were able to talk to Synod members.  I am extremely grateful to Christine McMullen for

sponsoring the display, to Dilys our Associate member on the Committee for organising this event, and also to her and her family for bringing display stands, pamphlets, leaflets, books etc.  Without them we simply would not have managed.  I am also grateful to some of the London members for staffing the stall, to Cilla for coming down from York to help, and to Jenny and her son Julian for the posters.  Jenny Dunlop, a Cheshire

Solicitor who has helped many Broken Rites members is also a member of General Synod and was very helpful and supportive.

Our Presence General Synod:-

This is the first time we have arranged a display at the National Assembly of the Church of England which consists of three houses of Bishops, Clergy and Laity. They meet two or three times a year. In February, they were meeting at Church House in Westminster.

We were sponsored by Christine, a member of  General Synod and our display was manned by different members of Broken Rites over the four days Synod met. It gave us an unique opportunity to talk to members of Synod and publicize our  work.

BROKEN RITES STALL AT THE METHODIST CHURCH CONFERENCE

Ruth, the Non C of E Rep on the Committee, has been able to arrange a Broken Rites stall on 7th 8th and 9th  July at the Methodist Church Annual Conference to be held in Scarborough this year.

I think this is a wonderful new initiative and I am grateful for all Ruth’s hard work which hopefully will help to raise awareness of the work of Broken Rites in that denomination.  I am sure we will all be interested to have an update in the next edition of The Rite Lines.
