Finding your way through divorce can be very overwhelming, especially when it’s not something you ever expected to be doing. Do ask a trusted friend or family member to accompany you in your search for the advice you need, or check our support page: you don’t need to face it all alone.

TIED HOUSING is often our biggest issue, and often not mentioned in otherwise helpful information packs or booklets. A good solicitor is worth so much. And KEEPING GOOD RECORDS of everything said and done, even if it may not seem relevant at the time, can be very helpful too. Help is out there! Here are some suggestions…

  • Law Centres – Is there one in your area?
  • Civil Legal Advice – you might be eligible for free and confidential advice from Civil Legal Advice (CLA) as part of legal aid if you’re in England or Wales.
  • Family Justice Council – This publication Sorting Out Finances On Divorce may be useful (check their website for updates)
  • Find a solicitor – search of solicitors registered with The Law Society of England and Wales
  • LawWorks – a charity working in England and Wales to connect volunteer lawyers with people who are not eligible for legal aid
  • Resolution – community of family justice professionals who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way.
  • Rights of Women – helping women through the law
  • WikiVorce – free advice on divorce
  • Women’s Centres – if you’re a woman, these offer all sorts of support including legal advice, often on a what-you-can-pay basis
  • your employer, bank or insurance company may offer free advice
